Up to this point I'd felt guilty that as a trekking party we were having it quite easy: porters would carry our luggage and cook our meals. By the time I'd crossed this rather precarious "bridge", the guilt had evaporated!

The porters take a well earned break at Siklis. A normal day's pay for a porter is 150 rupees (£1.25). The porters pictured were earning 250 rupees (£2.10) a day - rent in Kathmandu is 1000 rupees (£9) per month.

As we descend into the valley we pass locals carrying crops between villages. Evidence that in rural parts of Nepal people rely almost entirely on subsistence farming.
